Our Family
Welcome to the Shreckengost family blog. This is the official website of the San Diego chapter of the Shreckengost clan. Currently we are a family of 4 and 2 dogs. We live in Santee, California and this is our story. The story changes daily so check back often and leave many comments.
A little Shreck History (stolen from Shreckengost.com):
Here’s what I know so far:
If anyone has more on the Shreckengost history please email me at bobbyshreck@gmail.com and I will include it here.
- The Schreck name dates back to the 1100’s and is supposedly a Hugenot name.
- Johann Jost came to America (Williamsburg, I think) in 1763 with four boys. They eventually settled in an area just east of Putneyville, PA.
- The Shreckengost’s spread through western Pennsylvania, and more recently to Oregon, Washington, Texas, Alabama, Florida and of course here in sunny California.
Some other random Shreckengost facts:
- The roots of the name Shreckengost are “Schreck” which mean “scare”, and “Gost” which is an archaic word for “guest”. So as it stands Shreckengost means “To scare a guest”.
- The Family Motto: “Sic Justus Nec Timeas” means “Be just and fear not”.
The San Diego Tree Branch
Diana started out in Michigan and then moved to California with her mother. I grew up in Pennsylvania - Putneyville to be exact but I just tell people I come from Pittsburgh. It’s way easier. We met at Dick’s Last Resort when her friend, my co-worker, planned a happy hour. We have been hooked on each other since that night. So hooked that this branch of the Shreckengost clan officially began to grow when we got married on August 20, 2005. It sprouted buds on September 19, 2007 with Sawyer Joseph and again on August 24, 2009 with Hudson Thomas. I would be shocked to see other buds blossoming because we are going to do our best to love and nurture this branch and our 2 little buds so we grow strong for a long, long time.
